All students must be fully toilet-trained and able to use the restroom without assistance. Our restroom is ADA compliant, and all students (including those with disabilities) need to be able to use the restroom and wash their hands without assistance from our staff).
Students must be able to attend class without having a parent present for the duration of classes. Students who require parental or one-on-one supervision/assistance from a nurse or aid would need to attend our partnership class, which is specifically designed for each student to be registered with an adult, who will participate in the class with them.
Students must understand the basics of classroom behavior and be willing to follow the rules. (Rules include raising a hand before they ask a question during instructional periods, taking turns, sharing items, keeping their hands to themselves, using appropriate and kind language, being kind and respectful to other students & the instructor, not speaking or being physically disruptive when instructions are being given, etc. Students are expected to be capable of working alone, in pairs, or in small groups with other students with minimal disruption / issue.
Students must be in good academic and behavioral standing with their schools. (Meaning that they can not be under suspension or expulsion for any reason.)
Our instructors will go over the classroom rules during our first class, so students know what is expected of them. Students who become a behavioral disruption during class will face consequences at that time such as being moved to a different seat, taking a time-out in a space away from the current activity, having their group/partner changed, or being asked to complete a project alone if they are causing a disruption to other students in their pair or group. We will discuss any/all behavioral issues with parents that occur so that they can be addressed and better prevented in the future.
We want to facilitate a fun and engaging environment and experience for all - so it's important for students to behave in a way that is conducive to everyone being able to participate and enjoy class. We will not tolerate bullying / name-calling or physical violence-including between siblings. For students with conditions such as ADHD, or other behavioral issues, we will be happy to discuss a plan with parents to best facilitate a successful class experience. In some cases, if behavioral issues are ongoing, we may ask that students attend the partnership class, where a parent or guardian is present during class, instead of having the student continue to attend drop-off classes.
All students must understand & speak English. We do not currently have any staff who speak foreign languages, and as such, translation is not currently available. Students must be able to listen to and follow basic instructions (verbal/written). Because students will often be working in pairs or small groups, it is important that students are able to communicate with one another to fully experience the class. We welcome students who are deaf/hard of hearing or students who are non-verbal or have other adaptive communication needs in our partnership classes where a parent/guardian or aid will be attending with them. One of our staff members is actively learning sign language in an attempt to be able to better involve deaf and hard of hearing students more fully in the future.
6. All students attending class must not be experiencing symptoms of illness. Any student who has shown symptoms of illness in the previous 24 hours including but not limited to; fever, coughing/sneezing, running-nose, sore throat, rash, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc MUST NOT ATTEND CLASS.
We have AMPLE opportunities for students to participate in a make-up class, and as such, we STRONGLY INSIST that if you have ANY concerns about your child's health, that you take precautions and keep them at home, making up the missed class at another time.
Upon registration, parents must agree and understand that some of our staff are immunocompromised and as such, we ask that you agree to keep your students out of class if they are or recently have been showing any signs of communicable disease. Because of our classroom instructor's specific health issues - we ask that if ANYONE in your home (not just your registered student) has experienced symptoms of Viral Gastroenteritis / Norovirus / Stomach Flu within the last 72 hours - that your student be kept out of class. As these conditions are HIGHLY contagious (even before a person shows symptoms) and often spread through families quickly, we ask that you take the UTMOST precaution in having your student stay home until you are 100% sure that your family is entirely free of any of these conditions. Exposing our lead classroom instructor to any G.I. conditions will almost certainly lead to an extensive hospital stay, and as such, we take this particular issue very seriously and we thank you for doing the same.
