South Jersey's

Mini Master Builders Program

Have a kid that LIVES to build with Lego?
This club is for THEM!

If your kids are kind and creative, they are a perfect match for our program! We're going to teach MANY valuable skills during this course - from teamwork and cooperation, brainstorming, negotiation, physics and structural engineering - Lego is a FANTASTIC medium for both FUN and learning. We will do weekly builds and challenges- we'll learn new building skills and discuss techniques to make you a more well-rounded builder, and we'll work on creative projects that bring out the best in our builders.

Plus - at the end of courses, our most dedicated and talented kids will receive an invitation to join our year-long program where we work on large-scale projects similar to the ones our adult builders in the South Jersey Lego Club work on!

South Jersey's Lego Club (SJLUG) hosts Mini Master Builders Classes - for kids who love Lego!

  • Who is the Mini Master Builders Program for?

Simply put - the program is for kids who love to build with Lego! We will have two groups - Juniors (ages 7-11) and Seniors (ages 12-15). (Anyone 15+ is welcome to check out our actual LUG for adults!)

(For more information regarding "Is this course right for my child" - Please read our Letter to parents regarding builders with Special Needs here.)

  •                        Who hosts the Mini Master Builders Classes?

Kristie Evans (41) is the President of the South Jersey Lego Group, a skilled Lego Model builder and she will lead the Summer Sessions. Kristie is a retired police officer, a long time Cherry Hill Soccer Club coach (of an undefeated team- for 7 seasons!) and she looks forward to leading a team of kid builders through some awesome challenges, some fun and competitive build contests and she can't wait to see what the kids come up with!

What?

What will the kids be doing during class?

Each colored class has a different curriculum designed to take six weeks - the first two classes (Orange and Blue) each have six different projects that are different each week. The Red class involved three two-week projects, and the Purple class involves two projects that take three weeks to complete.

Spring & Summer 2023 Classes are being planned currently -
Be sure to pre-register if you're interested!

2023 Big News!
We know that many parents (especially those of our students from last summer's very successful first round of classes have been frustrated by the delays in our next round of classes-  but we've got great news - things are FINALLY moving forward with our getting a new location for our classes to be held (permanently!)

Three units at the business park where our Lego Clubhouse is located (In West Berlin, NJ - right off Rt 73 South by the Walmart) are opening up in the next month or two. We're actively working with the realtor that helped us secure our clubhouse location almost two years ago - and we'll be able to FINALLY announce upcoming class schedules as SOON as we solidify those plans. Instead of moving into a unit at the Echelon Mall (Voorhees) - where we have had no luck in securing a location (the Realtors and Mall Management have been IMPOSSIBLE to work with - we've literally been trying since September to secure a location in the size that we need) - we're FINALLY making progress and moving forward.

New Classes are Coming Soon!

We DO know that we'll be holding several NEW classes - including classes for parents & kids - one for older kids (ages 7-14) and one for Little Builders (Ages 5-6), we'll also be continuing with Level 1 and Level 2 classes for Juniors (ages 7-10) and Seniors (ages 11-14)!

We're also going to be holding a class that teaches teens and adults how to sort & organize their collection, how and where to re-sell your Lego - and tactics for collecting, finding retired and new sets at great prices and so many more tips for collectors!

Did your child attend a Mini-Master Builder's Class?     We'd love your feedback!

When & Where?

Where are the Mini Master Builder Classes held?

The South Jersey LUG's new Clubhouse & Classrooms -
420 Commerce Lane Unit #4 West Berlin NJ 08091

What happens if my student misses a class?

Planned Absences (Travel, Etc); If you know at the time of registration that you will be away for any specific week of class OTHER than the first class, we can offer your student to make up that class up by attending in another class of the same age group on another date. As we do have limited class space, this is only available for planned absences.

For example;
Your family already has a vacation scheduled in mid-August, and your 8 year old won't be able to attend their Week 5 Red Juniors class - as long as we know by the first day of your child's classes, your child can attend their Week 5 makeup class either with another Junior's class during their Week 5 project.

If you have a planned absence and your makeup class would occur out of order (for example, your student would make up their week 6 class before attending week 5)- that is fine. The only class that MUST come first and cannot be made up, is Week One, as the Week 1 class must be attended before any others. The Week 1 class lays the foundation for all the other weeks, and has the students building name tags, so they can get to know each other, and so the instructor can get to know each student.

Unplanned Absences (Illness, Emergency, Etc); We are unable to GUARENTEE make up classes for unplanned absences but we will TRY to offer a makeup class IF one exists for your student's age group. There are no refunds available for missed weeks, as we have to purchase supplies ahead of time for the various projects, but we will give students some take-home info from any week's class they are unable to make up due to scheduling.

Extended Absences (Covid, Serious Illness, Etc); While we cannot offer refunds if you have to back out of class after registration is full and class schedules have begun (as we have to purchase supplies ahead of time and plan for the number of registered students) - we WILL offer your student a future return class during the 2022-2023 school year OR the summer of 2023 to any student who misses three or more consecutive classes due to serious illness, at only the difference in price between the course they paid for and the future course (if there is any difference).

A Note About Illness
*Our lead instructor, Kristie Evans, has a compromised immune system because of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome & Crohns Disease, so we ask that you be extremely thoughtful in sending your child to class with any symptoms of illness. If your child has signs of illness (allergies, a cold, etc) that do not require that they stay home & miss class, we DO ask that you have them wear a mask that week to protect our Master Builder and their classmates. Our staff will always do the same!

We do ask that if anyone in your home (not just the enrolled student) has had a stomach bug (IE diarreah, vomiting, etc) within 72 hrs of any class date, we ask that you let us know and that you do not attend that week, because of our lead instructor's immune system issues and her serious health history. We will make *every effort* to reschedule you for a makeup class to cover that missed week. We sincerely appreciate your consideration in this matter, we just want to take EVERY possible precaution to keep Kristie out of the hospital, as it would obviously severely impact our summer course schedule!

Covid-19
Our staff (even our own kids) are all fully vaccinated including Covid-19. We strongly encourage everyone to get Vaccinated and Boosted to keep everyone safe. We welcome students to wear masks, but we will not require it unless there is a spike or a new mutation / if mandates change and it is required where we will be holding classes. We thank you for understanding & for your cooperation. We care about you, and your kids, and all of your family's health and safety!
