What is the Littlest Builders RED Class? Littlest Builders RED is a six week long parent & child class for our YOUNGEST builders - kids ages 2-4 yrs old. Each class is one hour long and will include four segments; Part 1: (5 min) Reminder of the Rules, and our Welcome Song. Part 2; (15 min) Group Themed Activity, during which students & their Play Partner both actively participate. Part 3; (35 min) Free-Play, during which time, parents can choose to supervise OR actively join their child in free-play in our large classroom space. Part 4: (5 min) Class wrap-up, Our Goodbye Song, and Heading Home!
Littlest Builders RED is a six week long parent & child class for our VERY young builders, ages 2-4 yrs old. Each class is one hour long. We start with a quick reminder of the rules for parents and students (such as keeping our hands on our own builds, no throwing bricks, etc!), and then we'll play a fun Lego song to get everyone moving!
Each of our Littlest Builders RED Classes will include short instructor-lead activities (where we'll introduce a fun game or activity) and parents are encouraged to work with and teach their child the basics of participation in that activity. For example, we'll build towers and roll balls to knock them down (Duplo Bowling!) - we'll sort towers into BIG, BIGGER and BIGGEST, or we'll collect up Duplo and sort them into piles of blocks by color. Each class will include at least one theme / activity which will last about fifteen minutes. For approximately thirty five minutes of each class time, students and parents will be free to play in our classroom space, utilizing our play-space, our build tables, and our MASSIVE collection of Duplo, Quatro & Primo FULLY kid-safe building blocks, to create whatever fun and interesting creations they want! Finally, at the end of class time, we'll all jam out to another fun Lego song before saying goodbye to our class friends until next time! On the final day of the six week class, students will be presented a certificate, acknowledging how many classes they've participated in / completed to date.
Who is the Littlest Builders RED Class appropriate for? Littlest Builders RED is appropriate for all builders ages 2-4 - however it IS an active class with a lot of floor-play and physical activities.
Adult Play Partners should dress comfortably (including comfortable shoes) and should expect to be on the floor with the kids during this class (We do have chairs available, but most activity will take place on the floor). Play partners must be able to physically wrangle their child (IE, keep up with them for the length of the class time, be able to pick the child up and move them if necessary, etc). Parents should be prepared to enforce the rules of the classroom, and, if multiple infractions occur (such as their child touching another student, or knocking over another student's build), parents should be prepared to intervene and/or temporarily remove their child from the situation, until the child has been reminded of the rule and has calmed down and is able to SAFELY return to the activity. All children should be accompanied 1-on-1 for this class. (Parents of twins/siblings interested in attending with 2 children should speak to our instructor ahead of registration to discuss. Only one or two sibling/twin sets will be allowed per class to make sure every child is adequately supervised/assisted, and will depend on our class instructor / class assistant situation for that specific class.)
Students should understand and be able to follow simple instructions given in English (or, if a parent is able to interpret, we welcome ESL & ASL students - however, we do not currently have any foreign language or sign language FLUENT instructors at this time). It will be helpful for students to have an introduction to the ABC's, colors, numbers 1-10, etc as some games will involve these concepts - but it won't be necessary for students to have already mastered these skills prior to class. Students do not have to be able to read/write for this class.
Regarding Students with physical limitations or intellectual disabilities - please contact us to discuss your child's specific situation BEFORE registering for class. We will be able to more specifically answer your questions, and to discuss if your child will be able to benefit from, and actively enjoy all (or at least most) of the activities we have planned for that specific upcoming class, and we can discuss any necessary accommodations.
Can a student take Littlest Builders RED more than once?
ABSOLUTELY!Our 6-week class is designed to be able to be repeated as our course is never the same twice! Each 6 week Little Builders RED class will rotate through our many fun class activities, and each class schedule and the specific activities will be different than the one before. No two classes during any given year will have six identical activities, so if you sign up for multiple classes, you will always experience a different course schedule, and multiple activities that we didn't do during the previous session.
We welcome and encourage students to attend multiple classes back-to-back OR spread throughout the year!
At the end of the course, Little Builders get a certificate recognizing the completion of class!
